Halloween In Greenwich Village

Elsewhere in the U.S., Christmas is usually the main occasion for elaborate holiday decorations. Here in Greenwich Village, Halloween is at least as big, or bigger. Over the weekend one of my daughters led me on an excursion to find some of the best displays. Here are a few.

Sometimes you can see the homeowner inside looking out at you!

Note that the decorations are almost entirely a phenomenon of the private homes, rather than the apartment buildings. These days, the private homes in Greenwich Village are almost all in top condition, and the homeowners — at least, the ones who are alive! — take great pride in maintaining them. The homes in these photos are along Perry, West 11th, Bank and West 4th Streets, and between Bleecker Street and Greenwich Avenue.
